Yao started as the daughter of a powerful martial arts master in the television production “My Own Swordsman” in 2005. The series was particularly popular and made it known throughout China. Later, in 2008, she played the role of an emblematic figure of the guerrillas in the “Lurk” series.

In 2009, she made her theatre debut as a heroine in A Story of Lala’s Promotion, as well as in the romantic comedy Sophie’s Revenge with Zhang Ziyi.

Yao later played in the romantic comedy Color Me Love (2010), which later became one of his most famous movie roles.

In 2012, she will be in Chen Kaige’s melodrama, “Caught in the Web”, as a journalist in search of the truth, then with Andy Lau in the action thriller “Firestorm”, which won her the prize for outstanding actress at the Chinese Film Media Awards.
