Synopsis:
United Kingdom, 1982. A young Anglo-Japanese woman sets out to write a book about the life of her mother, Etsuko, marked by the post-war years in Nagasaki and haunted by the suicide of her eldest daughter. Etsuko begins recounting her memories thirty years earlier, during her first pregnancy, when she befriended her loneliest neighbor, Sachiko, a young widow raising her daughter alone.
